21 Mar Our mission to Warri Kingdom
In the month of November 2016, a door was opened for us to carry out medical missions in Delta State. The first mission took place in Central Hospital Warri from November 13 – 19, 2016. It was an amazing week for us because the people of Warri Kingdom accepted us as there own and made our stay in their land very comfortable.
The people trooped into the hospital in their large numbers to get medical attention. Each day, the number kept increasing as the beneficiaries went back to tell other members of the community about the free medical care provided for them. Thousands of people got medical care ranging from consultation, laboratory, eye, dental, pharmaceutical and surgical care. The impact made by our visit to Warri is still felt and talked about till today.
But this wouldn’t have been possible without our partnership with Southern Atlantic Petroleum led by the Executive Chairman and Vice Chairman, Gen. T. Y and Chief Sen. Daisy Danjuma. This community health initiative was part of the corporate social responsibilities of the company. We are glad to have partnered with them to improve the health of Warri people.
As part of our activities during the mission, a visit to the palace of the Olu of Warri Kingdom was inevitable. Not after the warm welcome and hospitality given to us by him and his people. Visiting him to thank him and officially make him a part of the Pro-Health family was inevitable. In his kind way, he also thanked us for coming and wished that we could come again.
The icing on the cake during the medical outreach was that November 14 happened to be the birthday of the Executive Director Dr. Iko Ibanga and one of our volunteers Mr. Onyeka Onumara. The day started with a nice surprise birthday cake and cards for them presented by the PHI staff in Abuja. Then the team of volunteers made a heartfelt prayer for them. Little did they know that the cake and cards were just the beginning of an awesome day. So later that evening, a surprise party was organized for them. It was a night filled with excitement, more cake, food, drinks and of course lots of dancing.
You can never be at a Pro-Health medical outreach and be bored. We work hard and we have fun. You too can be a Pro-Health partner or volunteer. We don’t do these great things alone. We work with like minds to make it happen.
